Authors Note: I wrote this essay to tell people about this book and why it is the best book I've ever read.
Only about 2% athletes as kids will grow up to play pro sports. The other 98% doesn't make it and has to find a new dream. If you want to be in that 2% you have to be elite at that sport and believe me, it takes practice. Maybe if it is shooting in the dark. The novel Night Hoops by Carl Deucker is a great story that really realtes to real life.
Even thought it''s hard to shoot, it would make your game a whole lot better. The main character’s name is Nick. Nick wasn’t allowed to hangout with Trent, but Trent still plays on Nick's basketball hoop every night. I wouldn't be too excited if I heard that a kid I couldn't hang out with was playing on my hoop every night of every day of every week. If someone started using my basketball hoop it would make me furious. Out of the blue, people just start playing on my basketball hoop sometimes. I can connect to the madness Nick is feeling.. Nick always wants to preform at an elite level in front of he head of the basketball system, but I mean, who wouldn't? You play well in front of him, anything can happen. You never know what could happen. It could even get you a scholarship. With my grades the way they are now, I shouldn’t have a problem but that can all change in the wink of an eye.
This story really relates to me and catches my eye how real it is. Nick is just like me in a lot of ways. We are exactly the same.We are into the same things, think the same things, and sometimes, I even ear myself saying his exact words as in the story. Anytime I play, I want to be the best person on the basketball court. So does Nick. He kids around but still gets his work done and effectively, too. Trent though, we are almost opposites. Trent walks around like hes so tough and smart. He is kind of cocky, and frankly, I wouldn't hang out with him. He is nothing but trouble and never is doing something good. His grades in school are not very good and he won't be playing basketball for long. Trent listens to whatever his peers want to tell him. That won't get him anywhere in the long term.If he learns to listen to himself and do what he feels is right, he will turn out to be a really good kid.
You want to know how hard it is to go pro? Really. That is the only word I can use to describe the immense amount of work you need to do to get that good at something you love. To become great though, it takes a lot more that just that work. It takes extra hours in the gym and it helps if you don't think your great. If you follow these steps, you just might get there.
