Author's Note: This essay was an opinion on if the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge should drill for oil. Here is my opinion.
There has been a problem and debate on whether the United States of America should drill for oil in Alaska’s wildlife. If the United States decided to drill we could only last about 6 months on all the oil supply we gain. With that much more oil, it would really be a non-factor on the gas prices and production of oil. Do not let the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge drill for oil.
We have to be thinking about the animals and their homes. If we start drilling in Alaska, all the animals will have to find a new home because the United States took away theirs. A little self centered I think. Don’t you? We need to be respectful of what the animals want because before you know it there won’t be any existence of animals anymore. Drilling for oil in Alaska will have a large affect on the environment and all the animals that used to live there.
Although there are many affects on the environment and its animals, it also plays a huge role in the Economy as well. People say the gas prices are way too high and they need to be lowered. They say if we had more of a supply of oil the prices will go down right? Wrong. With the oil we would gain from Alaska it would only improve the stock of oil by 4% and it wouldn’t help the prices by much anyways. We need to be cautious of where we drill for oil.
Even though these reasons stick out to me, I think the big question is why do people think we need more oil? We have enough it’s just that people need more of it when they are driving semi trucks and buses which take up a ton of oil. Ford and Toyota have cars called a hybrid and it needs less gas. Chevy also has a car that needs less gas and is part electric. The only problem with this is that the hybrids and the electric cars are that they cost more for the cars and with the economy the way it is, people are not willing to spend the extra six or seven thousand just to prevent using as much of our oil supply. Once the economy gets better, I think that it will all settle out and everyone will be glad in the long run.
After researching the topic of if we should drill for oil in Alaska for about two weeks, I have came to a conclusion. I would say that we should not drill for oil and save some habitat for all of the living animals. Their oil supply would only last about six months anyways, so why kill homes for the animals?
