Durant's Game-winner

Authors Note: This is my first writing circles piece of second semester and we wrote about the NBA. I wrote about the playoffs because they are my favorite time of the basketball season.

You can feel the tension in the crowd. Some are on the edge of their seats as others are standing with so much nerve they cannot speak; but you can still feel the tension as the clock ticks down closer and closer to zero. Chesapeake Energy Arena was so quiet you could almost hear the sweat running down Kevin Durant’s face and hitting the wood floor. Just then is when the arena seemed to be in slow motion as Serge Ibaka runs down to set the screen for Durant. He has played an unbelievable game and one of the best in his career; but all he could think about was winning the game. The young point guard Russell Westbrook knows what is on the line and knows just who can get the job done as he swings the ball over to Kevin Durant. Durant has been as cold as Novak’s jump shot at Arrowhead High School. Kevin takes a sudden peek at the clock located above the hoop. He sees that his time is running out down to 3 seconds now. Durant puts his head down as his home crowd counts down for him. 3, 2, and as the clock struck one Durant rose into his jump shot and hoists the ball up towards the hoop. He looks on disgusted at the shot he just put up. The whole arena felt in slow motion as the ball was in the air on it’s way down now. Just then is when it hit the rim and it looked like a certain brick. It’s bounced high off  the front of the rim and came down into the hoop. At that very moment the whole arena burst into cheers except for the very small portion of the visitors’ Dallas Mavericks fans. Kevin Durant standing tall above the world as his team comes over and hugs him and high fiving him. Kevin Durant had just given his team the 1 point victory. Oklahoma City Thunder had a 1-0 series lead against last year's championship winning team. Kevin Durant had a great night that night, and it was a good night to enjoy, but before he knew it he was back in Chesapeake Energy Arena Lacing up his shoes and stretching out preparing for game two of this exciting and thrilling series.
